The Dhoop Wrap

A handwoven pashmina wrap with Mughal figurine motifs.

$595.00

One size. The counterpart to Chhaon — same cloth, different register.

Size Guide

Never more than 50 made.

Chhaon is the restrained one. This is the other hand.

The motifs here are Mughal figurines — closer to the miniature tradition than to the printing block. Figures, gestures, small scenes. It's the most openly decorative thing we've ever made, and it took a while to be comfortable with that.

Dhoop means sunlight. The two wraps were always meant to be a pair — shade and sun, restraint and expression. Eight of each. You are unlikely to meet someone else wearing one.

The Craft Is in the Details.

Where Chhaon takes its motifs from the printing block, this one takes them from the miniature — Mughal figurines, gestures, small scenes running across the cloth. It is the most openly expressive thing we have made, and it took some time to be comfortable with that. The technique is identical to its counterpart: woven on the loom with multiple threads running at once, so the figures are structural rather than surface.

The weaving is done by a group of Kashmiri loom artisans in northern Pakistan. We credit the group rather than a single name because handloom work passes through several pairs of hands before it comes off the loom — that is how the craft works, and naming one person would be tidier than it would be true.

Faisal finishes each by hand. Eight exist, which means you are unlikely to ever meet someone else wearing one.

FABRIC

100% pashmina, from the same handlooms as the Chhaon Wrap. Light in the hand, warm out of proportion to its weight, and built to drape. The pattern is woven in rather than applied.

CARE

Dry clean only. Store folded and out of direct light. Press with very light steam if needed. Pashmina is a protein fibre — store it somewhere moths can't reach.

CONSTRUCTION

One size, 45 × 100 inches (114 × 254 cm). Identical in dimension to the Chhaon Wrap — the pair differ in pattern and register, not in cloth or cut.

SIZE GUIDE

One size. 45 × 100 inches (114 × 254 cm). Eight made.
