The Chhaon Wrap

A handwoven pashmina wrap with block print motifs.

$595.00

One size. Wide enough to wear over a jacket, light enough to carry through a warm evening.

Size Guide

Never more than 50 made.

This started as a drawing. Not a print to be laid on cloth afterward — a design meant to be woven in, with multiple threads running at once, tracing the line as the cloth was made.

The motifs come from block printing, the same craft hidden inside the shirt-jacket. Here it runs open, across the whole surface. The two pieces are the same argument at two volumes.

Chhaon means shade. What you look for at the hottest hour of a Lahore afternoon. Eight of these exist. That number wasn't a strategy — it was what the loom gave us.

The Craft Is in the Details.

The pattern on this wrap is not printed. It is woven — multiple threads running at once on the loom, tracing a design drawn specifically for this drop. That means the motif exists in the structure of the cloth rather than on its surface, and it will not fade, crack or lift with wear. The motifs themselves are drawn from block printing, the same craft that sits hidden under the collar of the Shadman Shirt-Jacket. There, it whispers. Here, it runs open across four feet of pashmina.

The weaving is done by a group of Kashmiri loom artisans in northern Pakistan. We credit the group rather than a single name because handloom work passes through several pairs of hands before it comes off the loom — that is how the craft works, and naming one person would be tidier than it would be true.

FABRIC

100% pashmina. The fibre is among the finest natural wools there is — light in the hand, warm out of proportion to its weight, and it drapes rather than sits. The pattern is woven in, not applied, with multiple threads running at once to trace the drawn design as the cloth is made.

CARE

Dry clean only. Store folded and out of direct light. Press with very light steam if needed. Pashmina is a protein fibre — store it somewhere moths can't reach.

CONSTRUCTION

One size, 45 × 100 inches (114 × 254 cm). Large enough to wear over a jacket or wrap fully around the shoulders, light enough to carry folded through a warm evening.
